For a while when I was in high school, and in my early college years, I was an activist obsessive. I wanted to take a stand on, well, everything. I wasn’t happy about fireworks and their effect on the environment. I’ve matured now and have learned that appreciation is a better emotion than anger. I’ll just appreciate the beauty of this spectacular day than be angry and fight against it. I’ve found even more ways to love Independance Day, which means that I am incorporating the holiday spirit into my meals. I truly believe that everyday should include a an explosion of tasty fireworks on the palette, but in honor of the fourth of July-we have a recipe to share with a little red, white and blue (and of course green too)!…
Collecting spring water for better sex
I could actually title everything on LanaShay.com “x” for better sex. Ninety-percent of everything I eat and drink contributes to a healthy love life. This is certainly not an ego-trip, it’s fact. I’m preaching because I want you to feel good and experience sensual bliss too. If that’s alright with you, then read on.
This is a continuation from last week, when I ranted about drinking plastic flavored water. It was a sad moment when I ran out of water when I reached the top of North America’s tallest waterfall, because it was contaminated by my low-quality plastic hydration pack.
My husband Joe and I collect our water from a natural spring. We used to have an Aquasana filter on our sink, but learned after a year of using it, that it wasn’t delivering us the best source of pure water.…
Relationship advice from Grandma
What did your grandma tell you about the opposite sex? What about relationships and marriage? My grandma taught me a lot of things that I need to unlearn to be quite honest. Yet, there’s so many things that my parents, and grandparents taught me that I believe was so important. There’s always a deeper meaning if you care to dive deeper into their words. As humans, we continue to evolve, grow and expand, but I know one thing for sure made sense; and my husband’s grandmother told him on the phone when he spoke to her on this past mother’s day.

For me, this has held true. Maybe it’s my connection to the Italian traditions and the emphasis on family.…
Come Grocery Shopping with me!
I have a LOT of girlfriends who love to go shopping together; shopping for clothing. I can’t stand shopping for clothing! I’d much rather shop for FOOD! I’m fortunate to have a LOT of girlfriends who also love food, and they love going on culinary adventures. Farmer’s markets are some of the most exciting places in the world, if you use all of your senses to engage in the experience. I created a three minute video of one particular adventure because it was a whole morning of sensory pleasure with three women from completely different parts of the world.
Mercedes, is from Buenos Aires, Argentina; Yuliya, is from Osipovichi, Belarus; and Emilia is from Gdansk, Poland. We have so much fun eating and shopping (for food) together-and I enjoy it because of each girl’s unique approach.…
Where do you put a pancit?
In your mouth, silly! I actually didn’t know what Pancit was either, but fortunately, we have the lovely July to inform us. I love traveling, and learning about food from other cultures. They way that some cultures perceive food-as sacred, a gift from the earth, or just pure respect for their bounty is fascinating. As the weather becomes warmer, I’m dreaming of exotic travel, and living vicariously through July is just enough to tide me over for the moment. Please read on to dive into this mini food-adventure with me 😉

Masarap!
There is a rumor, or perhaps a stereotype, that every Asian airline must employ beautiful flight attendants. As I sit on Philippine Airlines flight 2905 heading from Manila to Bacolod, the island of Negros, I cannot dispute it.…
Did you miss it?
If you missed the webinar yesterday, you’re in luck!!!
It’s been recorded 😉 This webinar was so freaking powerful. Bethanne is full of incredible wisdom about optimal living. She delivered such tremendous value, I-myself was totally blown away. I am so excited to share this with you. I felt motivated, inspired, energized after this webinar, and I honestly could have run a marathon with that kind of fuel.
[Tweet “What if we could understand each other better? Not just through our minds, but through our hearts?-Bethanne Wanamaker “]
Every single thing that Bethanne said during this webinar resonated with me on the deepest level. Our message to the world is completely aligned and it’s no mistake that you’re reading this now.…
Meeting the Food Babe
Have you ever seen an invention, and said to yourself, “Hey! I thought of that years ago! Why didn’t I act on it?!” I feel like this is so common in our world today, and this same scenario goes for business as well. When my husband Joe discovered the Food Babe, I totally had this feeling. Why wasn’t I courageous enough to start speaking about the food industry publicly? What was I waiting for? How could I withhold this information for years?! This feeling only lasting a brief moment, because I instantly fell in love with Vani Hari, the Food Babe and decided that the only and best option was to join the food babe army. I was so excited about what she is doing, that I felt compelled to stand on my desk and clap as I read through her blog articles, and watched her videos exposing the food industry.…
2 steps for overcoming the fear of cooking
Just a week or so ago, Joe and I went on a double date with our good friends, who I absolutely love talking food with. We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Dosa in San Francisco.
While we indulged in our Dahi Vada, it dawned on me that the issue we were discussing wasn’t uncommon. It wasn’t something I’d experienced, so I didn’t tune it right away-so I’m definitely curious if it rings true for you.
We’ll call the female counterpart of these double daters, Sara, and her husband Tom. Sara was telling Joe and I a story about visiting friends on the East coast. It was a joyous conversation until a dreaded question arose. “Tom! What does Sara make you for dinner?”…
Did you eat chocolate on Valentine’s Day?
I sure did! It was a nice heaping scoop of “sensual fudge-y love sauce.” But, I know what you’re thinking. This article is late. Valentine’s Day is old news! Although I do have a question for you, specifically about this holiday.
What comes to mind when you think of V-day? Roses? Kisses? Chocolate?!
This food from the Gods is not something to be taken lightly. When I eat chocolate, it has to be the kind that uplifts my soul and pleases my body in every way (especially if I’m having it on an occasion that is deemed the day for lovers). You didn’t think chocolate had these abilities, did you? Furthermore-here is a Sensual Foodist fact: Everyday is a good day for chocolate.…
Old Skool Sensual
Let’s go back to a time, not too long ago, when we first moved to California. I don’t do this too often, just once in a blue moon, or maybe just a new moon (did you know it’s less than a week away)? I used to write poetry, and I think that creative spark just tried to poke it’s head out. ha!
When Joey, Joe and I first moved to California, I fell madly in love with food. Can you believe it? I was honestly a sensual foodist before arriving to the West Coast, however, my love has grown deeper and yet more simple. At one point, I tried on extreme veganism, then moved more toward vegetarian, and now I’m feeling the need to live without label that everyone has seemed to have tried on themselves once upon a time.…
