Top 10 Sensual Foods

These are 10 superfoods that I like to keep stocked in my kitchen, as they are proven to ignite the senses, summon sensuality and provide the body with optimal nourishment.

Organic farming promotes ideal soil conditions.  By purchasing organic, you  are voting with your dollars and asking for more nutrient rich soil and in turn, optimal nourishment for you and future generations!  If possible, also have these powerful foods fresh, and raw.

Now for the good stuff.  Let’s chat about the number one sensual food.

MACA!  I am so in love with Maca.  I make fresh almond milk for my matcha tea and mix in a scoop of powdered maca.  It’s known as the “Peruvian Viagra”, because of it’s sex-enhancing power.  The Incas adored this root in ancient times for it’s benefits. Research shows that Maca root to contains two compounds, macamides and macaenes, which put it in the category as an aphrodisiac, and it also increases energy and benefits overall health.  The following sensual food is a great place to add a little maca in your diet.  It’s a great accompaniment to chocolate!

Raw Cacao is everyone’s favorite.  Who doesn’t love chocolate?  Phenylethylamine, is the magic “love chemical” in raw cacao that signals the release of dopamine in the brain.  Anandamide, is a neurotransmitter that is linked to motivation and pleasure.  It leaves you with the feeling of bliss! Cacao is also good for your heart.  In it’s unprocessed form, cacao is high in the antioxidants resveratrol, epichatechins, and procyanidins which are phytochemicals that dissolve plaque in your arteries, and dilate blood vessels, which can lead to lower blood pressure.  The coumarin in cacao works as an appetite suppressant, blood thinner, anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory.

*Be sure to choose the best quality.  I have certainly sampled around the world, and the best quality chocolate I have found is made right here, just north of my home in California. Chocolate that you find at your local grocer is high in sugar, dairy, and other fillers that are known to promote inflammation, which is the root cause of disease.

Avocado trees were called “ahuacatl” or “testicle tree” by the Aztecs, for good reason. Avocados are high in vitamin B6, which is important in the process of making serotonin.  Serotonin is one of the most important neurotransmitters for that brain, and is created in your gut.  It helps to regulate our sleep cycles and cope with stress and much much more!  Avos are also high in potassium, which regulates the female thyroid gland. Lastly, they’re rich in folic acids, which are good for the heart and energy levels.


Kale is very high in calcium. Per calorie, kale has more calcium than milk, and this will help you maintain a healthy metabolism! The high in Vitamin C content in Kale is helpful in maintaining cartilage and joint flexibility Kale. With it’s fiber, it’s great for aiding in digestion and elimination. Since it’s full of so many nutrients, vitamins, folate, magnesium, iron-it’s truly a super food!  For all of you veggies; per calorie, kale has more iron than beef. Iron is essential for optimal health, such as the formation of hemoglobin and enzymes, and transporting oxygen within the body, cell growth, proper liver function and even more! Kale is great for cardiovascular support.  Eating more kale can help lower cholesterol.  It’s high in Vitamin C, which is boost immune function, and hydration. Kale is a detoxifying food, and considering it’s fiber and sulfur content, a good hearty helping each day will lead to a healthy happy liver.


Beets! Oh beets. How I love thee!  I love them simply juiced or even steamed and naked.  Beet juice is loaded with nitrates, which are natural plant compounds.  These compounds are converted by the body into nitric oxide, and essential ingredient to maintaining firmness and hardness in men.  This may be one reason as to why the Ancient Romans used beetroot to improve their sex drive.  They also have high levels of the trace mineral boron, which is directly related to the production of sex hormones.  This gorgeous root contains trytophan, a chemical that contributes to wellbeing.  I did mention the importance of iron, as the #4 sensual food, Kale is loaded, but Beets are another fabulous source for this trace mineral.


Blueberries are a superior super food.  Even though I am pro-age, I must share, they are the true anti-aging magic potion!  My husband loves to tell me about this rat study when we’re indulging.  A few summers back, organic blueberries were on sale.  Joe and I love to surprise each other with edible gifts.  I brought home 20 pints of blueberries!  We ate them raw as treat-and believe it or not, they weren’t around long. They lasted just over a week in our home.  These gorgeous little berries are full of powerful antioxidants, which are a class of compounds that may help prevent heart disease, cancer, and other health conditions by ridding the body of free radicals.  They also contain phytochemicals that help your body to burn off excess fat. Resveratrol is yet another compound found in blueberries.  This “miracle molecule” has been shown to slow the loss of motor coordination among aging mice.


Raw Almonds are packed with vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber and have an amazing property that you may not know.  Scientific studies show that about 15 almonds equal the effect of one aspirin.  Goodbye potentially harmful pain killers! Hello nature’s medicine! These alkalizing nuts contain high levels of fatty acids which are key in production of hormones needed to maintain a healthy sex drive.  Arginine, is an amino acid found in almonds which helps to relax blood vessels and increase circulation.  They are a MUST while traveling.  I always keep a fresh stash in my purse.

Goji Berries have been used in ancient Chinese medicine for centuries as they are commonly used with herbs for longevity tonics.  We keep a jar full of them stocked so we can grab a handful when we want a treat.  They’re delicious on their own.  Research has shown them to be beneficial in the treatments for eyes, skin, allergies, insomnia, chronic liver disease, diabetes and cancer.  They are an overall strengthening tonic and can increase virility and sexual health.  Who would’ve thought-a berry high in protein?  Goji berries contain 18 amino acids-the building blocks for protein.


Celery is my favorite mid-day snack.  I love a crunch stalk of celery dipped in raw almond butter!  It can provide natural stress relief, as the phytonutrients called phthalides, have a widely recognized sedative effect.  Guys, eat it raw, to boost the production of androsterone, the odorless hormone released via male perspiration.  This has shown to act as a pheromone and arouse females!  Keep it fun and exciting with a couple stalks-genius! Asparagus is packed with antioxidants, and is a particularly rich source of glutathione.  This is a compound that helps break down carcinogens and other harmful compounds like free radicals.
