Meeting the Food Babe

Have you ever seen an invention, and said to yourself, “Hey! I thought of that years ago! Why didn’t I act on it?!” I feel like this is so common in our world today, and this same scenario goes for business as well.  When my husband Joe discovered the Food Babe, I totally had this feeling.  Why wasn’t I courageous enough to start speaking about the food industry publicly?  What was I waiting for? How could I withhold this information for years?! This feeling only lasting a brief moment, because I instantly fell in love with Vani Hari, the Food Babe and decided that the only and best option was to join the food babe army.  I was so excited about what she is doing, that I felt compelled to stand on my desk and clap as I read through her blog articles, and watched her videos exposing the food industry.…

3 Foods to balance your hormones

Yesterday, I went to the Chiropractor.  Actually, she was a holistic chiropractor that practices CranioSacral Therapy, acupressure and chinese medicine.  I’m quite sure the list is even longer, but needless to say, she knows her stuff.  I visited her because I took a little fall during aerial a few weeks ago. I’m still a little crooked, but I’m certain that this amazing woman straightened me out today.

The first test she did led her to question the functioning of my pituitary gland.  The conclusion that we came to, was that my body was still adjusting to the major shift that occurred after I did the Ibogaine.  If you check out the link-no big news there, I did not do the treatment for addiction.  …

Spicy Secret Series #1: Cinnamon

Spicy Secret Series #1: Cinnamon |  by: July Westhale

Remember “How snacks can save your marriage?”  Well, that moment when your blood sugar drops and you’re ready to chew on your own arm, cinnamon is a quick and easy trick!

Research has shown that two teaspoons of cinnamon the night before a blood glucose test can drastically alter the results. As a long-time hypoglycemic, I always carry cinnamon supplements around in my purse-arsenal for times of low blood sugar, since it’s a well-recognized quick-fix.

For hundreds of years, the spice has not only been used to solve a hangry-arm chewing catastrophe, it’s also used as a remedy for muscle spasms, to vomiting, and just for the common cold, or loss of appetite, stomach upset, and inflammation that contributes to illnesses such as arthritis or chronic pain.…

Sensual Foods that travel

Last week, my husband Joe and I attended UPW, a four day seminar with Tony Robbins.  We prepared and packed everything we needed for food, but some things worked, and some didn’t.  This is a follow up to last week’s article.   If you are traveling and have a cooler or fridge in a hotel room, this is certainly a meal plan I highly recommend.  I was satiated and my taste buds did not crave anything more with these tasty meals.

The first time I attended this event in 2011, I felt like someone had beaten the crap out of me by the first day. By the fourth day, I was feeling like roadkill.  It’s a few days after the event now, and I feel like a million bucks.  …

What does a record breaking athlete eat?

My dear friend, iX-chel Sandivel is a truly driven individual and record breaking athlete. In her competitive running days, she nationally ranked in the 10,000 meters, and placed 11th at the NCAA II Track & Field Championships.  She is a former Nike elite runner for “The Janes.”  Ix-Chel is now a women’s empowerment coach.

I met iX-Chel in an unsuspecting place and felt an instant connection.  She is consistently cultivating her skills and is truly a well-rounded teacher.  I love learning from her and we have so much fun together.

Our unsuspecting meeting place was a nail salon in Las Vegas.  Both iX-Chel and I visit nail salons once in a blue moon.  To add another silly twist to this scenario-my husband came to pick me up at the salon and was waiting for a few minutes near all of the glossy fashion magazines (gotta love him)!  …

“Sex and Poop”: a Valentine’s libido class

FREAKING elated.  Yup. That’s what I was during a class I attended at Rainbow Grocery Cooperative in San Francisco.  This class drew me in with the saucy subject; Libido and Sexual Health.  “Poop,” as you may have noticed in the title of this post, is a bold way of referring to digestion.  I will expound more on this topic in following posts!  The main topics of the class were as follows:

  • Which foods boost and which foods squash your sex drive
  • The connection between your mind, heart and libido
  • Understanding the role of hormones
  • The role of stress and mood on your sex life
  • Herbs that support libido and sexual well being

The three presenters, Sara Reed, Marisol Kim, and Sara Jane Gorman delivered such intriguing and useful information that I was literally on the edge of my seat, while attempting to take notes at lightning speed.…
