Are you disconnected?

When is the last time you walked outside without shoes on? If there’s been snow on the ground for months where you live, I understand. Though I know that it’s still possible to walk outside without shoes on in the snow, it’s just much less pleasant (I did grow up in Wisconsin after all). I’m still going to argue that it’s possible. Allowing the soles of your feet make contact with the earth is just one of the many many ways to reconnect.

My husband Joe and I launched PsychedelicTimes.com over six months ago now. It’s drawn some of the focus and attention away from my passion for writing about Sensual Food, yet I will never compromise my health, and thus the Sensual Foodist lives on.…

Goodnight, Taipei, on Valentine’s Day

july

Do you love holidays? I love the idea of an unconventional holiday. Our writer, July spent some time in Taipei, and wrote about it to give you a taste of something you might have yet to try. Here’s your chance to experience a lil’ spice of Taipei.

Goodnight, Taipei, on Valentine’s Day  |  by: July Westhale

How do you ever been out on the streets on Valentine’s Day? Couples are all grinning at each other, giving each moon eyes, eating sitting next to each other instead of across the table, and generally just making the lives of those who are single pretty miserable. However, aside from big metropolitan cities, Valentine’s Day in the United States is more about packaged candy and stuffed bears then eating the taipei noodlessame spaghetti noodle in a back alley of an Italian restaurant.…

Happy Holidays!

How do you feel right now? I’m feeling really peaceful. The hustle and bustle energy that Christmas seems to bring each year has died down, and I’m so relieved. Even though we have chosen not to carry on this tradition for at least five years now, I still feel the intense energy of this time of year. My husband Joe and I don’t buy “presents” for each other, and buy only one for Joey, our 14 year old. This year, we actually didn’t buy him one at all. It’s one of the best decisions we’ve made. The uncomfortable, unnecessary pressure of Christmas consumerism has dissolved almost completely.

I know that New Year’s Eve has yet to come, and I really encourage you to to let this tradition live on.…

Bypass cancer with 10 action steps

Just over one month ago (though it seems much longer) I wrote about my father being in the hospital as a result of COPD. It really sucks to say; I’m not surprised that my grandmother ended up in the hospital over 2000 miles west, only a few weeks later. What are the chances? I guess I didn’t give it much thought before the situation came to be, but the chances were high.

Imagine NEVER cleaning your house. No washing the dishes, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and so forth.  Do you think it would get filthy? Probably so…

What about your body? It’s a great metaphor, (that I certainly didn’t create) the body is a home. I love to refer to my body as a sacred temple.…

How to make the best decision (hint: guts)!

That sick feeling I get in my “stomach” (or somewhere in that area) when I watch a scary movie, might not just be a feeling. It might be a decision being made, to never, ever watch that movie again. How can I make this conclusion? I have stopped watching scary movies since I became familiar with this churning feeling in my gut. The expression “gut decision” has more validity than many of us have been taught. Clean guts are the answer for making the best decision. Yes, we can think better, when it’s clear in there.

I skipped posting before or on Halloween, as I would generally rant about sugar. If it’s your first time visiting, it’s no secret that I am a huge advocate for ditching the most socially acceptable, more powerful than cocaine (eight times-research shows), disease causing drug on planet earth.

Coming out of the Closet

In “coming out of the closet,” I am referring to the psychedelic closet, as legendary Rick Doblin has put it. Sometimes I wonder if we’re all in the closet in one way or another. Is there anything that I keep to myself? Yes, there are a few things, but then again, there are always a few people who know. I never keep anything completely to myself. I’ve found it to be a great practice for me-just being open, even if it’s only with one person. I am so grateful for my relationship with my husband Joe, because I feel comfortable and happy to share with him, so many of my experiences and secrets.

One thing that connected Joe and I the day we met was our experiences with LSD.…

When I introduce myself as a “Sensual Foodist” I usually get a reaction, followed by a question. What the hell does that mean? Ever heard of this definition? Presenting something in a more interesting or lively way? I like to talk about food in a more interesting or lively way. It’s just how I feel. I’m passionate about it. I’m passionate about putting something in my body that helps to make me feel amazing-inside and out. Yes, it’s about the sex, too.…

Feelings of shopping as a Sensual Foodist

What’s the most excited you’ve ever been while eating? Think of that time. Could you barely get the food in your mouth fast enough, or were you taking all of your sweet time to savor every bite because you just didn’t want to finish? Was it the greatest moment ever? Have you ever had one of these with food?

At Burning Man-just a few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to spend time with a few of my mastermind sisters (a group of incredible entrepreneurs who support each other in current endeavors). Joe and I were sitting, having tea-at the Full Circle Tea House, and I saw one of my girlfriends pop her head in. I rushed over to hug her and noticed that all of my mastermind sisters were in less than a 10

foot radius at that moment.…

Whip up dinner in 10 minutes or less

Where is last week’s article? It never happened. I didn’t write one. Burning Man consumed my every moment.  A hiatus was a must to ensure that this year’s burn was epic…and it certainly was. We danced, we cried, we ran, we tripped (vicariously through a volunteer position with the Zendo).

Then, we came back home and got back in the kitchen. I figured it was time for a freestyle video. Totally unfiltered. This is how we walk, talk, move and groove in the kitchen, and we even had the boy come in (watch to find out who he is). There so much work to be done before, after and during Burning Man, so we were into a quick-yet super nourishing dinner.…
